Gibson Motorsport has a long history of success in Australian motorsport with multiple Bathurst 1000, Australian Touring Car Championships, V8 Supercar Victories and individual race wins to their credit.
Fred Gibson, the man who started it is now back working with one of the most successful motorsport team managers in Australia, Alan Heaphy with an all new evolution of Gibson Motorsport.
Both Fred and Alan are passionate about cars and particularly older cars being close to their heart, including some very old classics.
Fred himself was once a leading driver for the Ford Motorsport arm winning the Bathurst 1000 (then Gallaher 500) with Harry Firth in an XR Falcon GT and many other Touring Car victories.
Fred’s wife, Christine Gibson has long been regarded as Australian most successful female race driver and the 1980’s they teamed with Nissan to form Nissan Motorsport in Australia.
This relationship with Nissan blossomed and in the late 1980’s an young man called Mark Skaife joined the squad along with Alan Heaphy.
The rest as we all know is history with Gibson Motorsport taking over full control of Nissan Motorsport and introducing the most successful Touring Car of all time, the Nissan GTR in the closing years of Group A Touring Car racing.
Godzilla as the GTR became known was a true indication of awesome machinery matched with technical knowledge and winning spirit for Fred and Alan teaming Gibson Motorsport to multiple Bathurst 1000 and ATCC victories.
When Group A changed to V8 Supercar in the early 1990’s the team moved to Holden (with the Nissan then banned under V8 rules) and quickly continued the race winning ways.
Upon selling out of V8 Supercar racing in the mid 2000’s Fred and Christine have spent more time with family while Alan has headed the motorsport operations of Mitsubishi’s Ralliart arm establishing a purpose built motorsport and automotive servicing facility in Hallam, VIctoria.
Now in 2012 Fred and Alan have teamed up again to introduce a new version of Gibson Motorsport providing maintenance and management services for classic and unique road and race cars Australia wide.
“Our focus is about assisting people with classics like GTHO’s, Mustangs and NIssans from both road and race backgrounds. We have the knowledge and personnel experienced in getting these cars running right all the time from engines to electronics.” says Fred Gibson.
